1000_year_rainHilton Head Islanders may be craving some sunshine after 12 days of dark skies and some rain, but we really have nothing to complain about. Our neighbors in Columbia and Charleston will need lots of help in the days, weeks and months ahead. If you would like to volunteer or contribute locally, listed below are ideas and collection points.

South Carolina Relief Efforts

While Hilton Head Island got off easy with just over 5″ of rain there are areas of Columbia and Charleston which experienced 3 – 5 times this amount in the same four day period.  The damage is extensive throughout the state and relief efforts are being put into place to help those without drinking water or homes. Here’s how you can volunteer (click here).

Hilton Head Community Efforts

This was just sent to us from Jean Beck at the Hilton Head Area Association of REALTORS:

There is a community wide effort to collect bottled water (gallon water jugs are best, but bottled water is fine too) and paper goods (paper towels, toilet paper, etc.) for the areas of South Carolina affected by the flooding.  We are very fortunate to have minimal damage by this storm.  Please take the time to help our fellow South Carolinians as they work to recover from this devastation.

Donations are being accepted at the following locations until 1:00pm on Friday.

  • Hilton Head Area Association of REALTORS® Office – Courtyard Building – Suite 124 • 32 Office Park Rd. • Hilton Head Island, SC 29928
  • The Bluffton Law Enforcement Center on Buckwalter – 101 Progressive St, Bluffton, SC 29910
  • Bluffton Town Hall – 20 Bridge Street, Bluffton, South Carolina 29910

Thank you.
