More Sand in 2016 = More Fun on Hilton Head Island
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Summertime visitors will enjoy bigger beaches on Hilton Head Island in 2016. Thanks to the Town’s Beach Renourishment Project starting this month. Funded by the 2% bed tax dollars collected on overnight lodging, this 20 million dollar project should be completed by Memorial Day. Shell seekers, sun worshippers and beach lovers will find more beach to love this summer.
The Time Table for Hilton Head’s Beach Renourishment
If you are on the Island during the renourishment, you will find some of the biggest sea shells you have ever seen on our beaches. This is because they are pumped in from the sand bars from deeper water. With over 12 miles of beach on the Island, visitors will have plenty of sand during the renourishment. The renourishment project is broken up into 4 areas that are listed below:
- February – South Beach Area in Sea Pines
- Late February to March – North and South Forest Beach
- April – Palmetto Dunes and Singleton Beach
- Late April to May – Port Royal
