As we head into the holidays, listed below are activities families can enjoy while visiting Hilton Head Island. My wife and I always get a game of family football together with our sons on the beach. No matter what the weather is, there is always something to do on the Island. Ideas for families visiting Hilton Head Island during the holidays include scavenger hunts, bike gaggles, family golf lessons, going to a show, enjoying a parents night out and exciting day trips listed below.

Enjoy a Family Gaggle Beach Bike Trip ~ Call the Palmetto Dunes Outfitters and rent a bunch of bikes for your gaggle bike trip. Mention you saw our blog and recieve a 20% discount for your family during the holidays! With its fleet of 1,500 new bikes, P.D. Outfitters will select the ideal bike for on-road or on-beach use. The shop has bikes for riders of all sizes – from small children to adults. Adult tandems and three-wheelers also are available. One idea is to head to South Beach for lunch…but be sure the wind and tides are in your favor!

- A family Scavenger Hunt on the Beach ~ One of our favorite things to do when the kids were little was to have a Scavenger Hunt on the beach. Our scavenger hunt usually included a buried treasure(a cooler buried with candy) at the conclusion of the hunt. Hilton Head Holiday ~ Chilly Day Ideas
- Daytrip Beaufort, SC ~ Beaufort is(35 miles) and about 45 minutes from Hilton Head Island. It offers carriage rides with warm blankets, great restaurants(my favorite is Plums) and quaint shops. If you plan on spending the night check out Rhett House Inn. You can also make your plan ahead of time and Visit Beauforts downtown website here.
- Daytrip Charleston, SC ~ Charleston is (98 miles) or about two hours from Hilton Head Island. Plan to leave early and you will find many museums, churches and historical sites to visit. One of my favorite restaurants is Southend Brewery and if you spend the nite, check out the rates online at the Francis Marion. You can also make your plan ahead of time and Visit downtown Charlestons website here.
- Daytrip Savannah, GA ~ Savannah is (35 miles) or about an one from Hilton Head Island. Of course, a most it to visit the famous restaurant owned by Paula Deen, The Lady and Sons . Like Savannah and Charleston, this city has incredible history and architecture and one of the best ways to learn about it is by taking a carriage ride. - Daytrip Palmetto Bluff ~ Located about 30 minutes away is a small cozy town that has a wonderful feeling. One of our favorite things to do is drive over and walk about the village and have lunch. Visit their website here to see the events planned over the Holidays.
- Family Bowling~ Looking for late night or weekend bowling fun? Take your family to Main Street Bowling and try “extreme” bowling – an adventure of lights, great music, wild bowling challenges, and (of course) your favorite food & beverages.

- Coligny Theatre, originally named The Island Theater, first opened its doors in 1972, and was Hilton Head Island’s only theater for many years.
- Arts Center of Coastal Carolina is located in the heart of Hilton Head Island and offers shows throughout the year.
- See the latest movie together at Northridge Cinemas, Mann’s Park Plaza Cinema and Turtle Cinemas.
