Savannah Landing on Daufuskie Island
We are offering for sale a deep water property on Daufuskie Island that includes 6 acres surrounded by water at the end of the main Haig Point Road(just past Marshside Mamas). This property offers the perfect location for a Savannah to Daufuskie landing which would become a wonderful gathering place for Daufuskie Island visitors and residents.
Properties Characteristics
This site is the closest deepwater site to Savannah, Georgia from Daufuskie Island, South Carolina. The site is zoned commercial and is considered a portal for Daufuskie under the new Community Preservation Plan for Beaufort County. The property is on the Intracoastal waterway and features 20’ of deepwater at low tide (naturally) which is only 15 feet from its coastline. It is a peninsula of land surrounded by water, includes century old live oaks and overlooks sunsets towards Savannah. The site has direct access to a paved public road into the property.
Saving visitors, residents and work force time
Daufuskie Bluff can save travel time from the The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (20 minutes saved by driving to River Street in Savannah), from south bound travelers on I-95(approximately 10 mintues saved for travelers that depart from Savannah) and boat travel time (approximately 15 minutes saved due to shorter distances and less no wake zone from Savannah). The combined savings of time varies, but it is no less than approximately 30 minutes in utilizing a Savannah to Daufuskie transportation system. As well, utilizing Savannah as the departure site increases access to good available labor, lower costs for housing and reduces the cost to bring people to and from work.
Combining public and private sectors with one Ferry Service
Currently Daufuskie Island serves public and private sectors with several ferry services. We propose offering a common ferry service and landing that can be utilized by the public and private sectors. These groups include Bloody Point, Melrose, Haig Point and Historical Areas. In fact, there is an ongoing effort of officials in South Carolina and Georgia to create a regional ferry system. This could tie together Daufuskie Bluff to Savannah, Hilton Head, Beaufort, Tybee and Bluffton. There is no reason Daufuskie Bluff couldn’t be the stopping point for that ferry system if people get involved now.
Centrally Located
Daufuskie Bluff is in the geographic center of Savannah, Hilton Head, Bluffton and Palmetto Bluff. This location would become a focal point of economic development on the southern part of Daufuskie Island and would gain “critical mass” from the existing county dock, Marshside Mamas Restaurant and Jolly shores. The property includes additional land for future development including a small Inn, restaurant and cottages. There is also the possibility of cooperative agreements with downtown Savannah hotels to include Daufuskie Island as their ocean/beach access and to provide an attractive golfing experience.
Daufuskie Investor Benefits
Investor benefits may include ownership of commercial enterprises including restaurant, golf cart/boat rental operations, future Inn/cottages, and public/labor/private ferry service income.
